This textbook emerges from an institutional, ethical, and spiritual 7 commitment to knowledge as a form of responsibility (amanah). Situated within English Departments in Indonesia and other parts of the Global South, this book responds to multiple overlapping crises: the planetary ecological crisis, persistent social inequality, epistemic injustice, and the dominance of Eurocentric knowledge systems in higher education. From an Islamic ethical perspective, knowledge is never neutral. It carries moral consequences and social implications.
